ParticipantHello, so I have a major issue. The reason it’s major is because while the oven in our house isn’t working I’m getting pressure to fix it! I need to fix it quick!! I have a SMEG SUK92MFX5 and I’ve posted questions on here about it. The swapping of the elements is not an issue for me normally but the element I have just put in is causing my electrics to keep tripping. The element that was working but is now blow has the following stamped on it kaneta 230v1830w 09 07. This one had an earth connector however the spare that I had has the following information kaneta 230v2000w 06 09, it looks pretty similar. This one doesn’t have an earth connector although I understand this is fine although not ideal. When there is no earth connector I need to just insulate the earth connector and not connect it to anything. If I connect this element to the cooker it trips the electrics. I have done a resistance test and it tests fine. However it isn’t right as the electrics trip. Does anyone know if this would be due to the part or could there be something else?
I need to get this working ASAP so any thoughts would be hugely welcomed.

It sounds like a duff element but have you checked the switch as well?

I have checked the element and the new one I ordered too. Both also show the resistance as being fine. However when I connect them up to the cooker they are not heating. Next step was to measure the power across the terminals. I am getting 0 so no wonder the element isn’t working. Kwatt, you mention a switch, what switch is this and how do I get to it? is there a fuse in the cooker somewhere that may have blown? I’d prefer not to drag the cooker out to get behind but if I need to then of course I can.
Any thoughts and direction will of course be most welcomed.
Thanks 🙂October 13, 2015 at 8:26 pm #430864Lawrence

okay as embarrassing as it is I need to post this incase others make the same mistake.
When you swap the element make sure that the correct connections are going back on as should. So what I mean by this is when I unscrewed my blown element and finally managed to get it out far enough I took a photo of the connections. However the crucial part here is that it was really hard to get it out. Eventually I persuaded it to come out. The problem is that before I took the photo a cable had come off so the photo I took was not enough. Luckily with the trouble shooting I checked back at an old forum post I had made that described the connections. The post is cooker-oven-forum/smeg-suk92mfx5-heating-element-stopped-working-dual-fuel-t5656.html and the cable diagram is
LEFT
|—Orange & white on the left most connector
|—
|
|—Green & yellow on the middle connector
|
|—Solid blue on the right side of the middle
|—Blue & white on the very right hand side
RIGHTI was missing a cable so I pulled out the oven (with a little help) and took of the 6 screws from the back panel. I had of course already turned off the electricity. I then could see the cables (see attachment if interested of photo of the oven with the back cover off). I could see the cable I was missing was the blue and white one. I poked it through, connected it all up blah blah blah and sure enough I had a working oven again. It then took another 30 minutes to clean all the years of sludge from off the walls, put the cover on tested it again and bingo. I am expecting apple crumble soon 🙂
Very pleased but just wished I hadn’t made it so hard for myself!
Good luck 🙂
