The dryer broke down when the rear bearing collapsed and the drum spindle broke. I have repaired this but I cannot stretch the drive belt over the jockey pulley. It is a new pulley and belt. As far as I can see it is the correct part. All the sites I have looked in state the same belt length etc. The one I have is a genuine Indesit one. This dryer is only 3 years old. To add I cannot fit the belt. It only just comes up to the bottom of the pulley. Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated.

It’s a stretch belt and without the special trade tool to fit it then it is a challenge. All sorts of cranky tips are given on various web sites and YouTube. Crow bars and socket sets, long screwdrivers and car wheel nut wrenches have all had good reviews by those that have succeeded without too much blood loss. All in the name of improvisation. Good luck whatever you use. 😀

Thank you Martin. One of the problens is that the plastic pulley breaks easily when a screwdriver rests over it. Have change it twice …. Any idea where I can get the “fitting tool”?. It looks like the safest option.

Sadly the ‘special tool’ is for the vented dryer, it will not work on the condenser dryer. As Martin says you just need to find a way of levering the belt over the pulley. TBH I usually manage with a flat bladed screwdriver and have never broken a pulley doing it. I have heard of others who use the old belt to pass under the new belt to pull the belt over the pulley. It is just a stupid design from start to finish. 🙁

Thank you iadom. I will have another go and see what happens. Stupid design is an understatement.

Have you removed the large plastic fan cover and fan, gives you a bit more room for access.

I had the whole machine in bits as the spindle broke that fits in the banjo bearing at the back. Having replaced the spindle by drilling the 6 rivets out and replaced them with the nuts and screws supplied I put it back together up to fitting the belt. I decided that I will try and find/make a metal pulley and fit that as a jockey wheel when I will be able to use a flat blade screwdriver to fit the belt.

Just put the belt on the pulley and with your hand pull the pulley and belt at the same time onto the pulley shaft.

Might take an extra few minutes but I still remove rear fan take 3 of the motor bolts out and loosen the 4th, motor will then pivot to allow easy fitting

Thanks Andy I am willing to try anything to do the job. One thing for sure I will never buy another Indesit machine no matter how cheap they are, I now perhaps understand why they are cheap.
