ParticipantI’ve just aquired one of these with the caveat; “it runs okay, but doesn’t heat the water. It’s the heater because that’s what the fault codes show”. On removing the heating element this afternoon I noted the plastic insulation on the wiring connectors was melted – which seemed to confirm a faulty element. However, once I’d cleaned the connectors on the element I did a continuity test to find a reading of around 38ohms! I presume this suggests a fault elsewhere, but, if this is the case can’t understand why the connections would get so hot?
I’d be grateful for suggestions on what to check next – I presume the pcb?
P.S. On reflection, I realise I should probably have run the machine to check the fault code before starting to remove bits 😳

It’s a cheap Indesit in a Hotpoint dress, both the heater and the pcb are known weak points.
Some of these were actually made in China, the Chinese model can have two different pcb’s, the Italian one also has a different pcb.Vastly different price range from over £80 to less than £40.
Full model number, serial number and commercial code needed to ID, look for ‘made in China’ or in PRC.
The connections get hot due to poor quality components and a failure at one point can weaken or damage the other.
Have you replaced the burnt connections then tried the machine? you should have cut off the old connector plug and refitted two new AMP tags.

Thanks for your prompt response.
It does indeed have ‘Made in China’ on the rating label 😯
I haven’t put anything back together yet – will do this tomorrow, fitting new AMP tags as you suggest.

Well the upside of it being Chinese is the pcb’s are the cheaper ones, again full serial number required to determine which one if needed.

Other stuff got in the way. However, I fitted new AMP tags for the heater connection last night and then programmed the machine to run through a cycle. Everything seemed okay – until about half way through when I noticed a slight water leak from underneath. I switched off the machine and traced the leak to one of the hoses to the heater where I hadn’t tightened up a jubilee clip properly 😳 . When I tried to run the machine again, the pump(s) could be heard running, though I couldn’t hear that water was being drawn through the supply pipe. After about a minute, the ‘eco’ and ‘pre’ LEDs started flashing and the machine stopped. This, according to the instruction book, is the error code suggesting a blocked filter; I removed and cleaned the filter, emptied the sump using a Vax, then tried the machine again, only to find the same issue to occur again! I’ve since tried to run the machine on different cycles; the same happened each time. 🙁
Any ideas?
If it is the case the pcb is playing up, if it helps:-
– Full model number: SDW60P.C
– Serial number: 903238373

Switch off the power and tilt the machine to one side, if water runs out from underneath then you still have a leak.

Thanks for your prompt responses Iadom. I’ve just tipped the machine; no sign of any water leaking. So it looks like a new pcb is required! :eeek: – or perhaps a trip to the tip 💡
It’s disapointing that these ‘modern’ machines have such a short life expectancy; unlike my 27 year old Servis Quartz washing machine that’s still going strong 😀 – bought in the days when Margaret Thatcher was encouraging us to ‘Buy British’ 8)

The error code as you correctly state is supposed to be blocked filters but can also be pressure sensor or main circulation pump failing. I certainly wouldn’t spend that sort of money on a Chinese made appliance. 🙁
