    Hi
I have a Smeg Opera A1.1 range cooker, the problem i have is that it is overheating, the fan element was glowing red and the fan had stopped spinning, now its cold the fans spins.
The red neon light stays on even when the cooker is turned off.
Guess its the thermostat but my cooker has 2, a Cooker Safety Thermostat and a Oven Thermostat.
What thermostat would it be and are they easy to replace.
Do I replace from the front or back?
Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully help.

    Re: Too hot

If the neon stays on when it’s all off the best guess is the oven function switch but, it is a “best guess” only.

I don’t think that a faulty stat would cause that.

If it was overheating then it’s all too likely that it’s the main oven thermostat that was the problem and, it’s then tripped out on the safety thermostat, exactly as it should do.

The only way that you’re going to know for sure is to get inside it with a meter and work out where the problem/s are.

    Hi

As the fan stops spinning when it gets hot its probably due to it seizing up as the bushes expand. You may also need a fan motor ass

    Re: Too hot

Funny thing is that the red neon light is on when the temp is set to off, if i turn the temp dial the neon goes off about 200, this happens regardless if i have the function control dial set at off or to an oven setting.

Am i right in thinking that when the red neon light goes out the fan should stop spinning, never really noticed before.

Incidentally a new function switch was fitted about a year back, terminals look fine.

If you still say its a stat is this the one?

Or, you could look for it on the store here and save yourself 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.

No, the fan will continue to run when the element isn’t powered as it will continue to circulate air in the cavity.

If ti’s simply not heating then, fan element is the go-to thing to look for a problem with and it’s this one:

Fan motor, as mentioned by Bryan is this one:

Please understand that when you talk about red and green neons etc what we see is this:

I couldn’t tell you what colour anything was, not a clue, unless the parts list tells me and, it usually won’t.

If the whatever neon is on when the cooker is off, it’s getting a feed from somewhere that it shouldn’t be and that’s normally going to be from the switch or, whatever it’s connected to that it’s giving indication for that’s toasted.
