hi i havent worked on one of these for a while the last light flashes on display but it wont lock or start i had a spare module which itried but its just the same could it be the selector on facia ?

Was that a control module or the fascia module? Normally its the start switch on the fascia that breaks away.

the buttons on the facia had come loose we refitted them but still no joy ,tried the changing the main contol module (behind the rotary timer dial ) that hangs down the rh side of machine fixed with two screws but no joy i seem to recall the rotary timer can cause this but have not got the right one
