ParticipantHi,
I have a problem with Kenwood oven which trips the RCD masterplug. I have done some testing and here is what I have
-The oven works for 5-10mins before it trips. When I unplug the RCD masterplug the pins are very hot.
-I have tested both elements which return normal value of circa 30. The main one is brand new. The oven trips regardless whteher the grill or main element are switched on.
-Both fans seem to be working fine and do not trip the RCD when the oven is on fan mode only
-One of thermostat set at 55 degrees and controlling the cooling fan was dead. I replaced it and now the cooling fan switches on
-The earth cable for the light has a burnt out signs at the connectivity point and the cable also shows signs of having burnt by touching the metal.
-I have also tried replacing the RCD masterplugReally annoying as I can’t seem to find the issue. If anyone has an idea please let me know

if you are using a seperate plug in rcd and the pins are getting hot that should not happen. if so is it the pins on the cooker plug or the pins on the rcd getting hot
if its the plug on the oven the rcd is prob faulty. if its the pins on the rcd then the socket is prob faulty
either way why are you using a seperate plug in rcd ?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. The oven mains are connected to an RCD masterplug directly (not the version where a plug goes into the RCD). It is the pins of the RCD that goes into the socket that are getting very hot. I’ll try testing the socket with a multimeter.
This is the setup as it was when we bought the house. That socket is then going into a switched fused connection.

sound like your wall socket is faulty. Get a good quality extension lead capable of taking 13Amps. if its on a coil pull all the wire out so it does not overheat. than try it from another socket

Thanks I have given this a go and it worked. I had tried this previously but it wasn’t working. I will test the socket properly this evening.
Thanks for your help.
