    Hi all!

I have a Hotpoint FDL 570 which was working fine until I came down to find it ‘stuck’ partway through a ‘normal’ cycle. The light was on ‘wash’ but it wasn’t doing anything, and when I opened it it hadn’t drained.

I figured maybe there was a blockage so I scooped out the water, cleaned the filters, then opened up the bottom and checked the impeller wasn’t blocked and the drain hose was OK – everything fine here.

I put it back together again and had another go – same result. What happens is you can turn the machine on, all the lights go on as a test and then the normal lights come on. If you select a cycle, the wash light goes on as normal but there is no activity – no hum, no buzz, no water noises, nothing. It just sits like that forever until you turn it off.

So – any ideas? I’ve heard before that you can get error codes on these machines but this doesn’t seem to be giving one.

    Cheers!

Remove the outer door panel and check for breaks in the wiring harness.

So I pulled off the front panel and the first thing I saw was the connector to the door switch which is all blackened and melted!

Of course this doesn’t constitute a repair and I would not recommend anyone do this, but I temporarily joined the wires together and tested it – the machine now starts the program fine so I have unplugged it and will await a new door catch which I have ordered online (tenner delivered).

    Cheers, hope this helps someone!
