ParticipantCould anyone advice please? My beloved 4 year old Beko frost-free fridge freezer CDA539FW-2 recently started forming a ball of ice on the back wall of the fridge on the LHS, and became noisy as if running all the time. I switched it off to defrost and pulled it out, noticing a small patch of frosting behind, on the outside, beneath the grills on the lining. Now that it’s defrosted, it’s sounding better but that patch on the outside has droplets of liquid oozing through what appears to be a long hairline crack. There is some ‘bubbling’ as if a patch has melted. Why would this happen? Can it be repaired? I’m thinking it can’t be safe as an occasional drop of water accumulates and trickles down the back outside, and there are electrical components? Also, there is a corresponding pattern of condensation droplets on the inside back panel. Would be grateful for any thoughts please.

It sounds like a blockage in the refrigeration system or low on gas or the compressor is not pumping correctly.
The insulation will be breaking down due to the fault.
I would say it is beyond economical repair and it is better to put the money towards a new one than attempt to have it repaired.

Thanks so much Bob for replying so quickly! Oh it grieves me that an appliance ends up ‘disposable’ when it’s pristine in every other way and then has implications for the environment! Any suggestions about brands built in such a way that enable repairs when they go wrong, even if more expensive, would be great.
Thanks again, AngelaJanuary 8, 2016 at 9:38 pm #434300SAMURI

The fault you had can happen on any make of fridge / freezer.
Gorenje fridge freezers are good and reliable.
It is all down to preference on what suits your needs as to the make you buy.
Cheers
