ParticipantHello
I’ve posted earlier regarding integrated fridge freezer sizes. We have an ancient integrated fridge freezer and were toying around with getting a freestanding version instead. The complication is that we have a family member who uses a wheelchair and the depth of a freestanding fridge freezer might be too much to allow them to enter the kitchen – it is a galley kitchen. We’ve measured and the current depth of the cabinet is 62 cm including the door handle. Adding on an extra 5cm which it looks like a freestanding version would require takes us to a “squeeze by” situation.
How difficult is it to remove the cabinetry containing fridge freezer to put in a freestanding version. The benefit of which would also be that we could take it with us if we move. Or from a cost and depth perspective might it just be better to go integrated?
Any advice would be most welcome!

Hi
We have on occasion removed an integrated fridge freezer from it’s timber housing and placed a freestanding Hotpoint RFAA52P or the frost free version the FFAA52P which are the only ones that will fit.
Yes you could remove the whole housing and fit a freestanding machine, If you are not DIY minded I would employ a local tradesman to do it for you.
Or as you rightly say you could replace like for like with another integrated appliance.

Although I am trading in Spain, my company regularly does this exact operation and we have found many appliances that are able to go in the space left if removing the entire cabinet We also carry out the removal of cabinet and I would be surprised if an independant shop local to you would not offer the same service ( It is 30 mins to an 60 mins work depending on circumstances )
If you can get a deal on an Integrated then fine but don’t forget that a freestanding one holds more capacity ( wider for a start ) so if that is what you need ( more space inside ) might be worth doing the conversion?? -
