    Hi,

We are looking at buying an fridge/freezer to be placed in an integral garage.

I read somewhere that I should probably look for a dual compressor model. Is this strictly necessary ? and is this the same as a dual thermostat model ?

We are also looking for a larger freezer compartment than fridge, but most of the products we have seen are either bigger fridges or 50/50. Can anybody make any suggestions ?

    Thanks,

    Steven

    Re: Dual Thermostat/Compressor Question

    Hi Steven,

Yes, in a cold environment than a dual compressor model is pretty much essential if you want the food in the freezer to stay frozen. If you browse arouond in this forum you’ll find a few people that have found this out too late and lost food because of it.

Dual thrermostat is usually an indication of a dual compressor model but not always so, best to check thoroughly.

I would not advise any appliance being put in this kind of environment though as, quite simply, they are not designed to be kept “outdoors” and, much like electronic devices (which of course many modern appliances use also) they have a set range of ambient operating temperatures that they will operate correctly within. Outside those, you’re pretty much on a hiding to nothing if it goes wrong, even under warranty as it is then deemed to be not installed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions.

You’ll see more 50/50 units than anything else as that’s what’s most common.

    Hope that helps.

    K.

    Re: Dual Thermostat/Compressor Question

    hi Steven,

I do concur that this is not an ideal environment for a F/Freezer.

I know that the caravan industry prefer to specify twin compressor models because of the extremes of temperature in a mobile home.

Yes there are twin thermostat / 1 compressor models on the market.

    Haier spring to mind.
