Hi guys.Haven’t been on this site for a while. Hope you are all well,

So is my trusty Bosch of 14 years in it’s death throes? There is a nasty metallic screeching on parts of the spin cycle. The brushes were changed about 15 months ago and usually last me years. So I am investigating new machines so that, should it conk out, I can order a new appliance straight away.I am loathed to throw any more money at it in repairs

Now, being a life long Bosch owner of almost all my household appliances I am falling out of love a bit. I know lots of people love them but there have been problems over the years.

Should I trust the Which reports? We have come a cropper a few times by purchasing the Best Buys.

Looking online at John Lewis, does anyone have experience of John Lewis own brand appliances? Namely the JLWM1413 washing machine? Who makes it really? To be honest the only programmes I use are 40, 60, easy care, quick wash and maybe a spin.I realise that new machines have multiple programmes, most of which I don’t want. I want a basic average load machine maybe 8kg with a top speed of 1400rpm.

What about Zanussi? A couple have made it onto Which’s hall of fame.
Back to Bosch, the WAQ number models make it into the 70{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} plus ratings. Would you recommend any particular model?

I really only want to pay around the £400 mark.So any suggestions?

John Lewis appliances are Zanussi = Bad choice
Bosch WAQ series machines have sealed drums = Bad choice too

Nah! Dig deep and stump up for a Miele W1 series. 10 year warranty, never breaks down, a treat your missus could only dream of, until NOW!

In which case something to pass on to your nearest and dearest should the worst happen. OR prove to others you have not only bought the best washing machine money can buy AND have sought the resolve to outlast it!

Should I leave it to the kids in my will then? Nah…why should I leave them anything.Let them make their own way in life and pay for their own carbon brushes !

I was led to believe (by a local repair man) that John Lewis washing machines were made by AEG 😕
Our old AEG washing machine was beyond repair, so was told about the JL / AEG tie up ……….. So we bought one.

John Lewis, Zanussi, AEG and Electrolux are all the same machine.
Electrolux is the parent company, John Lewis washing machines are simply rebadged.

I’d rather have an AEG or a Zanussi any day when you look at a lot of the carp that is currently around.

Two year warranty helps if you have problems as well.

Thanks Don. I have been brainwashed by Bosch and, as I said, I have not been without problems over the years with this brand.Does the John Lewis one count then ? It has a 3 year warranty.

Re: New washing machine recommendations please

It’s well documented on here that I am a fan of Bosch products. The build is better than most, ease of use, energy efficiency and the two year warranty still make them a popular choice in the mid price bracket.

A lot is mentioned here about non replaceable bearings due to the sealed tubs. If you don’t overload the machine, regularly check the filter, carry out a maintenance wash, leave the door and soap dispenser slightly open when not in use this all helps look after the machine.

Barring electronic failure the machine should go for a good eight years. We have a nine year old Bosch which completes 3-4 loads every week and I have yet to replace anything on it.

Don…I treat my machines better than my kids ! Door and dispenser always left open and de gunked. Door seal degunked (no mould ) and 90 degree wash every month. It is on every day maybe twice. Kids even come home and bring their washing ! I bought this one in 2002. So which basic model would you choose if you were getting a new machine bearing in mind the wash programmes above that I normally use?
