I got this freezer on freecycle at the weekend, made in 2004.
No lights on the panel, but the compressor works. Door seal is not great although seems to seal ok, no holes but tears on the inside.
Took the panel out and there seems to be damage to one area where one resistor pins solders into place. I replaced three resistors just about managing to get a connection with the trickiest one.
Re-assembled it and still no lights.
Searched on line and found the advice to replace the three capacitors, can get them for £5 online, £3 postage so parts cost £2.
The problem seems to be that the temperature cannot be regulated without the panel working and so will go to max frosting.

    Is it worth it?

First sign of madness is talking to yourself…
I solved the fault. I had replaced three resistors yesterday but I checked the continuity of them today and the one with the worst contact at one end had blown the track away from the resistor hole at the other end where the resistor lead is soldered in, so there was no contact. I cut two new holes in the PCB with a Swiss army knife, Stanley blade and a large needle and them soldered the resistor in place. Reconnected and the panel lights come on. Bingo.
