ParticipantNeff H5972NOGB/01 FD8705. integrated microwave.
Machine is supposed to have blown the main RCD in the house and then the control panel is dead. Meggered all the components – all OK. Turned on the mains and the display flickers but will hold up fine if pressure is applied to the back of it. Tried all the functions and it all works fine. 😕
Surely a PCB can’t throw the main RCD and still (to a degree) survive? The client only uses it as a microwave and hasn’t used the grill although it seemed to work fine for me. Magnetron magnet looks fine no splits and no sign of a pop anywhere.
I don’t really want to replace the control panel PCB if there is an underlying fault, any help on these would be much appreciated. Thanks,
Steve.

Really sounds like door micro switches
The pressure you are applying is in that area
apart from checking the individual switches also check base plate or support plate is not cracked
Meggar would not pick this up but defo would take RCD outFebruary 9, 2016 at 11:49 pm #435173aqualectric

Thanks for the reply, Melec. Is it the cracked base plate that causes the issue (thought it was plastic) or can it earth out or short in any way? Can’t quite see how that can that can trip an RCD but very interested to know how……
Thanks again!!

Must admit that mostly I have had this fault when opening or closing the door but absolutely WILL take out RCD if one of the three switches faulty
I have known this for so long I have forgotten the theory but when I say cracked baseplate I am meaning that it is not supporting the switch and causing it not make or break out of synch rather than it short to earth
Take the assy out and check them but just to be awkward one of them is normally closed whilst the others normally open and they dont click so needs to be metered
I will try and find out which is which later todayFebruary 10, 2016 at 10:41 am #435175melec

soz gave you duff info there sort of
All the micro switches are normally open none of them are normally closed but there is something unusual about the microswitch that has an orange nipple ?
Cannot remember properly as have not done one in ages but the two with red nipples are normal but that orange one acts like a safety circuit but I cannot explain it without finding some of my old notes SO DON’T CHANGE IT JUST BECAUSE DOES NOT SWITCH LIKE YOU’D THINK!!
Do not know if this switch assy comes as one piece or you can order individual micros?? I will get back to you if i can make some sense of itFebruary 10, 2016 at 10:45 am #435176melec

hang on ! This is not a convection oven/micro is it ?
I am talking Integrated Microwave btwFebruary 10, 2016 at 10:57 am #435177melec
ParticipantRe: Neff H5972 microwave fault.
yes it is a convection !! I dived in when I saw Integrated Microwave
( You say tomato and I say tomayto )
Forget all that BS !!!! That was specific to the Microwave/Grill etc ( 40 x 60 )
Yours is 50 x 60 correct ? (More or less )
Inverter style yes ? If so , I always move them sideways ? The control PCB is earthed also apart from the Inverter PCB to consider??
Big Banana Skin ? Best BSH methinks ? Sorry ! -
