This story will make you feel much better about your lot at the moment !! 😆
Just to show you that life and work in Spain aint no bed of roses 👿
I fitted a control module to a dead extractor hood only to get an 8 in the display panel which I could not change by any manipulation of the control buttons
Tried everything I knew ( hold down start button whilst powering up ) but the 8 remained and no configuration instructions in the box.
The button assy was the only part left to change apart from the motor so I did try to order BUT was out of stock and another 150 Euros and client decided that he did not like what he was hearing from me :con:
Apart from not paying me for 1st module ❗ he sacked me and phoned Siemens Official Service telling me that if Siemens verified my ‘cock and bull ‘ story THEN he would pay me for the control module ( As usual Job is miles away :bang: half hour drive)
Siemens guy comes, he can’t shift the 8, changes the button assy still can’t shift the 8, changes my module ( just in case) and still the same 😥 Following this ??
He just casually tells client BER and charges 75 Euros leaving my control module in and the client happily pays him.
The Engineer did not tell him what parts were faulty just BER and that was accepted.
OK leave aside the mess I am in with payment etc BUT what should I have done originally ?? I accept I must have done something wrong diagnostically but if the Siemens guy cannot get it either ???
Take extractor off wall and put 240v on motor just to prove that before diagnosing the module maybe ?? ( more than happy to be put in my place – don’t hold back)
Has anyone any practical tips with Extractors ? After this I am thinking to take them all down to bench test ?? I am down 200 Euros on the part and I don’t want to talk about Labour :boops:

Very little one can say over this other than to come over as being ‘wise after the event’ as it were. An altogether unfortunate situation and typical of punting on hoping an expensive module will solve the problem. Especially as we cannot get a refund on circuit boards it is therefore a risky business and no mistake.

One possible ‘get out’ is to get the customer to buy the module themselves, that way the onus is entirely theirs. 😉

Re: Siemens LC7591/03 Cooker Hood nightmare

My problem was though that I had 240 v to that control module and nothing out !!
Yet still myself plus a Siemens guy could NOT fix that armed with 2 PCBs so how to avoid that happening again???
No access to the motor to put a 240 supply on it without taking off the wall
So how do you teach a youngster the diagnostic procedure here ??
I am not even sure exactly what went obviously guessing that motor is blowing both pcbs but complete supposition at this stage
    Thanks for reply Martin

Re: Siemens LC7591/03 Cooker Hood nightmare

Just a thought: As you know, often a control module will do diddly squat unless all of the components it controls are functional. If you’re lucky that module will give an error code to indicate which component isn’t playing ball. They ‘self check’ before proceeding. In the case of this cooker hood it’s default setting displays the number 8 and unless the motor is OK it won’t function.

Looking at the user instructions it should have been possible to switch between exhaust and recirculating though. Was it possible to switch the display between the number 0 and the letter C? That would at least confirm that the original module was OK. I’m sure you can’t answer that now but I reckon the motor was most likely at fault all along. 🙁

original fault was no display at all that is how I know my module worked because after fitting got an 8 in the display which would subsequently not shift even when Siemens guy came
I was not there when he fitted button assy so cannot say
Minimum 2 parts faulty anyway control module + motor and maybe even button assy too

Re: Siemens LC7591/03 Cooker Hood nightmare

I am now waiting for the owner to give me permission to go and get my brand new module back out after Siemens Tech BERd it Luckily I know BSH boys really well and they will refund the money which they definately did not have to do
Had to write a very nice E Mail to persuade them ! Starting to feel a bit better about it now ( just a bit though )
