I’ve got a Hotpoint SY36 oven. For the last few years we have been having problems with the grill turning off before its fully heated up. The last couple of days this has got much much worse.
After turning on the oven, the Grill light turns on as usual and it starts of heat up. Very quickly the light will turn off and the grill will turn off. (Previously the grill would get to the point of being red but then very quickly turned off to the point it was no longer glowing or putting out much heat)
I was able to trick the grill to coming back on by putting the fan oven on for a few seconds and then switching it back but after a few more minutes it would trip out again.
Its as if there is a temperature sensor that is faulty on the grill. Any ideas where this might be?

Ah interesting. So the dial it self regulates the power to the grill
