ParticipantI took the door off my HV8B593G Hotpoint washing machine to replace the door catch. When I came to fixing the door back on to the machine, I slid the hinges back through the slots on the front panel, I managed to get the fastening bolts in to the top hinge, but could not get the holes to line up in the bottom hinge, this is despite waggling the door about for hours trying.
I wondered if there are any guides on the inside of the machines the hinges have to fit in to? Also I wondered if I removed the top from the machine would I be able to get my hand down to the hinges to put them in the right position?
I would be extremely grateful for any advice.February 20, 2016 at 1:22 pm #435557iadom

You may find it easier with the top off and possibly the rubber door seal unlipped. There is nothing that the hinges themselves slot into.

Thank you for your advice, I really appreciate it. If I get the rubber door seal out the way I should be able to get my hand into reach the hinge.
Is it difficult to get the door seal unlipped, would I need any specialist tools for the job?

Getting it un lipped is easy, getting the wire retaining band back on afterwards is not.
I would try with just the top off to start with.
Loosen or remove the screws from the top hinge and try and secure the bottom one first.
It is normally a very easy job to do but I will admit I did have one a while back that was very awkward.February 22, 2016 at 1:18 pm #435560steve8

Just one more question. Could not quite manage through the top of the washer, so am going to undo the wire retaining band so as to reach the hinge through the door. Despite pushing a flat headed screw driver between the rubber and the panel (saw how to do this on YouTube!), there was no sign of the retaining band.
My question is – does this model definitely have a retaining band, or is it fastened some other way?
Thank you once again for your time.February 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm #435561Martin

If there’s no sign of the wire band then the door boot such easily unhook from its front panel. It takes longer to type a reply to you than unhook it TBH.

It is a very thin wire on these.

I have spent several hours with a small screw driver pushing it right down between the rubber and the panel, but was unable to connect with a retaining wire. I have tried to peel the rubber back with my fingers, but it is too tight to move. A lot of my working life was spent in engineering, but I have never seen anything like this before!
I guess I will have to wait until I have the money to pay for a Hotpoint engineer.
I much appreciate your replies, thank you.February 22, 2016 at 9:44 pm #435564iadom

The wire sits in a thin groove in the door seal lip, it is not behind it. It is very tight but a thin bladed screwdriver is all it takes.
