KeymasterHi,
I have a White-Westinghouse built-under fridge, for which the model number is (from the handbook) 02-900192. It’s one of the ‘automatic defrost’ types.
I think it needs a new thermostat (not getting cold enough), and also the lower door shelf has cracked so it needs a new one of those as well.
I can’t seem to find many references to this manufacturer anywhere!
Thanks in advance,
James

Before you spend money on spares, I would check the diagnosis first 😉
If it’s not cold enough it’s very unlikely to be the thermostat, check to see if the motor is running continuously, as this sounds more like a system fault to me which may prove terminal fue to the costs involved.
If you’re unsure, please call an engineer to check for you.
Repairs@ and the directories should find someone.
Dave.

Well, the motor is not running continuously, just coming on and going off at intervals as you might expect. From what I’d read elsewhere it seemed that the thermostat might be responsible for this problem (ie thinks it is cold enough when it isn’t).
I also wondered whether the cost of a new thermostat might be less than the cost of calling someone out! I’d still be interested in getting hold of one, if you could source it.
Thanks in advance,
James

Generally and, this is a general observation from years of dealing with them…
If a thermostat (true elctro-mechanical type) fails it fails in one of two ways;
Fully shut which give no cooling at all as it does not energise the compressor.
Fully closed which gives constant cooling and “overfreezing”.
If it’s a push button deforost type stat then it should have one of either, anything in between is highly unusual and will have another cause in my experience.
So we’ll sell you a thermostat no problem for the machine if that’s what you want, provided you give us the model number etc., but I don’t think that’s what your problem is. 😉
