ParticipantPerhaps someone can help. When we had our fully fitted kitchen installed 12 years ago, there was no problem getting a fully integrated condenser tumble drier. A Bosch, in fact. Now it’s on its last legs, and doing the sums, for call out, spare parts etc, it’s probably going to be cheaper to buy a new one. However….Bosch don’t sell them anymore. And not do Miele, nor anyone else as it turns out. (I found a White Knight, but it is vented) Does anyone know why manufacturers have stopped making them? I had no trouble getting a Bosch fully integrated dishwasher last month. So why are there no integrated tumble driers….anywhere? What I do know is, it’ll look daft taking off the cabinet door and having a floorstanding one in the gap, sticking out like a sore thumb! Any help/advice/pointing in the right direction much appreciated. Many thanks, in advance, for reading this.

The reason is that they are technically “difficult” to do, can have issues with airflow especially if the installation isn’t absolutely spot on and that has become increasingly more difficult with customer expectations on load capacities.
It was very common to have condensation problems on the wooden facing door and suchlike. From what I can gather they are service call magnets.
So, due to the rising cost of producing them in the low sales volume they attract, the difficulty making them to work, aftersales hassles and the reluctance of people to pay for them I think most manufacturers have either given or all but given up on them.

Thanks so much for such a quick reply. What’s frustrating about this is that the only white goods in the kitchen (out of microwave, fridge, dishwasher, tumble drier – all Bosch) that hasn’t required any engineer call out over the last 12 years is the integrated tumble drier! But it is now failing, only heating to “warm” (it takes ages to dry clothes) and the push buttons on the front getting very wonky. With Bosch engineers charing £90 call out fee, and then the cost of repairs/parts (if it is not too old and the parts still exist) it seemed more economical to buy new. However, with this latest news perhaps I should bite the bullet and see if it is repairable!

Depending on where about you are, one of the guys on here may well be able to help you and, be a lot cheaper than Mr Bosch.

That 12yr old is still worth fixing in spite of the cost. Build quality superb and likely good for another 10 yrs. By which time you’ll be fed up with your kitchen and want all your laundry appliances in the utility room where they should be anyway!

Agreed, Martin. My one big regret is that when we had the extension built 12 yrs ago we didn’t include a laundry room!
