ParticipantHi,
I’ve got a Whirelpool awg995 and it quite old (15+ years) now so I’m thinking of replacing it with a new washer.
As this will not have a dryer I was going to keep my old machine as a dryer plus a spare washer in case the new one breaks so I can wait for a good deal to replace the new one. I don’t use the dryer much in fact once in the last year but when I do need it it’s much appreciated – so its age is not to much of a problem.
But I had a look in the manual and it says that during the drying cycle the water tap must stay open and the waste pipe must be correctly positioned.
It has a cold and hot in pipes.
Is this correct? Why would you need the water in connected for drying?
The dryer is a condenser type.
I was thinking of getting one of those http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141509850577?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}3AMEBIDX{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}3AIT Universal Condenser Kit To Fit White Knight Tumble Dryer Indoor Condenser and fitting them together some how.
Or maybe just a bucket or maybe a long pipe to the bathroom.
I was going to turn the water in pipes off but the cold is stuck and I may well not be able to sort it before the washer deal is over and there is a cheap 2nd hand dryer near me with it’s sale ending this Wednesday. I would just get the dryer and dump the old machine but I did want to keep it as a spare.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

a condenser dryer needs a cold spot to condense the steam back to water so it can be pumped away. they use a trickle of cold water to do this
so no water supply no drythe condenser kit can only be fitted to a vented dryer and they don’t work that well in my opinion
as for your tap. if its the common tap with a small flag. these flags break easily so remove the flag and use pliers or an adjustable spanner
as a last resort you can kink the inlet hose and tie it so you can disconnect it but it will still need to be sorted soon as fitting very old hose could be a problem if it gets too old and failsDave

Thanks for your reply.
I think I will go for the new washer and the 2nd hand dryer as I can £ it just now.
I might be able to store the old washer dryer somewhere for when the new one breaks and I can’t £ it at that moment in time.
The new washer is a LG FH4U2VCN2 comes with a 5 year guarantee plus a 10 year warranty on the motor and all its parts as standard.
Not really thinking about using the old one if the new one is broken just dead.
So it could be a long time before I use it.
Also I only do 1-2 washes a week as it’s just me.
Do u think it will be OK to store the old one for a long period and if so is there any particular way to store it?
Does sound a bit like get rid of the old one doesn’t it…I don’t suppose u know about this? The model number above is for white, N4 is silver. Currys say there is a manufactures 5 year guarantee (http://www.lg.com/uk/5yearwarranty) on both. Have talked to LG & they say N2 white only for the 5year guarantee. Got a useless clarification from currys…
The 2nd hand dryer I’m looking at is a Indesit Tumble Dryer, IS31V – 3KG Load looks like a good deal and potentially a very good price.
Any thoughts on these machines if u know them?
Thanks
Is there a thanks button or something I can click on to thank u?

dryer should be ok depends on what you are paying for it as you will have no guarantee but its not condenser so will need venting. a lot of creda built dryers (includes Indesit) are on a recall over fire safety at the moment but I don’t think this model is included
you could also look at the white knight C3A dryer. currys have it new for £120 but I have seen them occasionally in Asda for £99. British built in HalifaxDave

Slow to get there was about to pull the trigger when I found these:
Daewoo Washer Dryer DWCLD1512 bit more little info.
AEG Washer Dryer L75670WD bit more – Maybe a which best buy?
Both 2 years warranty.
Buy the time I’ve sourced a dryer the costs r getting very similar to the LG FH4U2VCN2 which is just a washer.
I don’t need a massive machine.
I’m leaning to the AEG as it would save me a great deal of hassle trying to find a place to put it.
Is it or the daewoo any good?
Many thanks

I would go for the aeg its a lot easier to get any spares if you need them
the only note is AEG is owned by Electrolux who also owns Zanussi so AEG is Zanussi in another case
