ParticipantWhat is it that causes this on dishwasher filters?
On this particular machine the fine mesh filter was broken and full of the gunge which was causing the fill to hunt, tripping into anti-flood.I have assumed in the past it’s the water softener set too high combined with the 3 in 1 tablets but would like to confirm it.

It is the fibrous material deposits from food. That rather extreme example proves the owner has lots of fibre in their diet.

…or just they’ve never cleaned the filters.

Thanks,
I can see the logic of it being from food fibres that get caught in the fine filter holes and then bleached through constant washing.
What doesn’t make sense though, on my own machines; the first machine which I gave away after 12 years never showed signs of this whereas my new(ish) machine started to do this the other week (but nowhere near to the extent of the picture) at about 1 year. I rarely clear the filters on either as plates are always scraped before being put into the machine.

I’ve seen it on machines that have stopped heating or having problems with water levels. Also , do they use the quick wash more often than not?

I’m not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure if they only use quick wash but will check when I go back with the micro filter.
The fault was related to water levels, the side float chamber was a bit blocked but where the micro-filter in the sump was also blocked with the gunge and split open so it sat against the inlet port that could also have caused the wrong fill levels and hunting on fill so not sure which came first.April 21, 2016 at 2:58 am #437209EFS

I have seen similar with many different makes and it is all down to the user not following the instructions in the manual regarding cleaning filters.
Any bells ringing here?
My mantra is “Its a dishwasher sir/madam not a waste disposal unit”
But it keeps us all in work so no complaints.Steve
