ParticipantHi,
These machines don’t appear to be common around my small rural area so have only ever worked on a couple or so.
Complaint was washing not emptying.
When I tested it empty ( I may have jumped the gun through ignorance) in spin it did not pump as the drum rotated. There was no supply getting to the pump. Long story short I assumed the PCB was at fault. I rang EMW who said that this does occur.
I ordered one from EMW and fitted it, it came with note saying the pump does not work when empty. I put washing the machine and filled it then set it to spin. The pump came on intermittently. I got a good spin from this.
Left it with the customer to use who rang back later to say that she did one wash and now the machine is playing up again. I called back and set a program, door solenoid engaged, machine began for a second or two then stopped dead with the door locked light remaining on (see photo) – the door would not open even when switched machine OFF.

I discovered (even with the machine switched off) that if I switched off at the wall the door solenoid disengaged and I could open the door. I could set any prog eg. wash and water would come in for literally a second or so, or a spin prog and the drum would turn momentarily, from then on dead with just the door locked light on and door locked. Switch off at the wall and door opened. This could be repeated ad nauseam.
If any one could point me in the right direction would be appreciated and to also indicate if pump does in fact come on at different points during spin or should be constantly engaged.
Thanks.
Laurence

On many newer Hotpoints the pump comes on only when there is a certain level of water in the sump to pump out. If the machine has drained down to scavenge level, the pump will be cut and then as the spin starts, the sump refills and the pump is switched back in. You need to do the pressure switch reset procedure (see Jim Iadom’s sticky at the top of this forum) as even leaning the machine back or cleaning the filter out will screw with the PCB. The analogue pressure switch has to be ‘re-calibrated’ using the reset method otherwise you will be chasing your tail. Filling the machine normally on a cycle without resetting it first will further confuse things. The pressure switch hose could be holed or the bottle partially blocked – check both as well.
Hope that helps!!
Steve.

Thanks Steve.
I have checked for clear airway of the pressure switch. I did wonder about the pressure switch but am not familiar (yet) with the analogue type. I have also leaned the machine back so will be following your advice Tuesday. Thanks
