    Hello

New to this forum, but I have a problem. Our Fridge Freezer isn’t working very well.

Problems started several months ago, around about the time of several power cuts (we live on a remote Scottish island and the power cuts out briefly about once a week in winter). Over the winter months, the temperature in the fridge fell below zero on a number of occasions. We thought that the ambient temperature in our draughty kitchen was to blame for this and tried to cure the problem by installing a heater in the vicinity of the FF at a low temperature to keep the chill off. This, coupled with turning the FF off periodically to heat up again, seemed to work reasonably well.

Recently, as the ambient temperature has increased, the opposite has happened. Last week the temperature in the fridge rose to 12 degrees C and the freezer to -5 degrees C. We let it be for a few days to see if it would recover, but it did not. We then switched it off for 24 hours and, bingo, it’s back to 4 degrees in the fridge and -20 in the freezer. Or at least it was! Now the readout tells me that it’s 00 degrees in the fridge!

Like I said, we live on a remote island. The local repairer can’t touch BOSCH because they won’t give him any parts or diagrams. BOSCH say that Scottish Hydro Electric are the only people who can work on the machine. They can come next Thursday but, according to the local bloke, won’t bring any parts with them. They’ll have to make a second visit, probably in 3-4 weeks to make the repair. I think this is a long time to have to put up with a faulty machine, albeit one which is now working almost normally.

Can anyone here make an informed estimate of the fault and what it’s likely to cost parts-wise? The machine cost us nearly £500, just over 2 years ago and I’m pretty miffed about it’s poor performance. We bought this, a washing machine and a dishwasher, all from BOSCH, based on their reputation for quality and reliability BECAUSE we live on a remote island! If the poor power supply has screwed it up then I’ll be doubly p****d off with the Hydro Board!

    Cheers

    Gordon

    Additional info!

    Just read the sticky!

The refrigerant is R600 (I think) and it’s a frost free model.

As it’s electronically controlled I don’t suppose it likes being switched off and on at regular intervals to be honest, none do 😉

It may be the fridge temperature sensor at fault in which case it’s a new PCB unit normally to override and use a “timing” control rather than relying on a thermistor to do the job. Although there is a simple modification that can be done to some models, I’m not sure if yours is one of them though ?

One of the BSH guys should be able to enlighten on this hopefully 😀

    Dave.
