    Hi,

I have a draining problem with my Neff 5225.25 machine.
When it has finished its wash there is lot of dirty water left in it.
I took off the the pump last week and checked its operation using an independent power source and checked the impeller was not broken. All seemed fine.
I then fed an electrical fish tape ( about 5mm thick ) down the corrugated pump outlet waste pipe right to waste pipe. It went through ok a few times. I connected everything back up and poured a bucket of water in the bottom of the machine and started the cycle. The machine straight away started to pump this water out and I observed a very healthy looking flow from the machines waste pipe into a temporary bucket together with a fair bit of gunge. I put some dishwasher cleaner in that I foundin the cupboard and ran a wash program. When it finished there was hardly any water in the bottom. However over the last week the leftover water level seems to have slowly increased and today I would say it is back to as it was.
Do you think its a waste pipe blockage or is there a water level switch that activates the pump or similar.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

First if all it is true to say your machine is well old and likely as not the pump itself is well worn. Those pumps are good for 5 or so years daily use, beyond that every wash a bonus.

The rubber flap valve between pump and sump may also be perished.

The drain outlet needs checking if it shares a coupling with the sink.

Thanks for the quick reply. I agree the machine must be 20 years old but really did’nt want to replace it until we get a new Kitchen. Will check the stand pipe as it shares with the sink. The sink seems to drain ok. As I said the pump seems to really throw the water out but maybe the hose has blocked up again since I tried to clear it last week. Can you recommend the best way to clean it in situ as it looks a nightmare to remove as it is contained in an outer hose with electrical wires. There is a flapper type valve between the pump outlet and the waste pipe that looked ok, well it was in one piece and did’nt look perished. Could it be anything else do you think ? I don’t mind the cost of the pump just need convincing as the shaft had minimal play and spun up well.

    Thanks

Re: Neff Dishwasher not draining properly

Sounds like the coupling onto the sink drain is the problem.

To clear the drain hose in situ is a messy business but as long as that outlet coupling is cleared first I use a compressed air sink plunger gun. Pump up the pressure, place the end onto the disconnected pump end and ‘boom’ all the muck is blasted down the drain. (You might want to put the plughole in first lest the kitchen ceiling gets covered 😉 )

Thanks again Martin. Will go through the entire waste line this week and let you know. Cheers

Re: Neff Dishwasher not draining properly

Update on the problem. Took back off kitchen unit and spotted I had fitted a independent stand pipe with p trap when I fitted it 20 years ago.Took apart trap and found it more or less completely blocked. Cleaned it out thoroughly and reassembled. Checked water level after a wash and it was a few inches below the bottom of the inside machine. Gradually the water level rose until it was about an inch above the bottom of the inside of machine. Would I’ve right in saying that this could be the rubber non return flap mentioned. Thanks

If you mean waste water is syphoning back into the machine then yes the flap valve (aka non-return valve) is at fault here.
