ParticipantHi,
My dishwasher (4yr old SMS65E12GB/43) isn’t draining properly.
This happened before and I found an elastic band (!!! who loads this thing?) wrapped around the drain pump shaft – removed that and everything was good.
This time there was muck (looked like hair!) around the drain pump shaft, but removing that hasn’t fixed the problem.
Also we’ve removed a load of gunk from the drain hose and that hasn’t fixed it either. The odd thing is that when a cycle starts or gets cancelled it runs the drain pump, but only for a few seconds at a time.
This is enough to move the water, but not enough to clear it.
Often it will almost make it to the top of the ‘hill’ in the left side panel and then cut out, not clearing any water at all.It feels to me like it is turning off the pump either because it thinks it’s done its job or because it thinks it’s not working at all – neither of which is true.
I don’t mind replacing the drain pump, but is that likely to fix it, given that the current pump does run and does move water?
Thanks
Jim

It does sound like the pump needs replacing. Carefully fill machine with around 4 litres of water and start a cycle. Then press the reset and it should drain all the water. If it doesn’t then, unless the drain hose outlet is blocked, the pump must be faulty.

New pump hasn’t fixed it.
The pump spins, water moves up the internal pipe to the top of the hill and never makes it over the top of the hill.
I can’t unhook the drain hoses because they both held too tightly in plastic clips.
I have managed to push an electric cable (disconnected :)) down the internal host (from drain pump to hill) and that’s definitely clear.
I can’t get the same cable round the bends in the exit pipe and I’m nervous about breaking a non-return valve there (is there one?).Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Where does the drain hose outlet terminate? If it shares the sink drain then you need to check that that isn’t blocked.
