ParticipantI have a Hoover Select 1500 Triple AAA, Model Number: 15-80 and when it goes through the wash programme and into spin, it simply won’t.
I have drained out the water, taken out the clothes and looked at the motor from behind when put on spin cycle.
There is occasional sparks from the motor and it looks like it wants to spin but can’t/won’t.
Could it be carbon brushes worn or is the motor a gonner?
The other day I thought I fixed it by removing the drive belt and helped it spin. It did the trick for a while but now a new wash was put in it (which was quite heavy when wet) and it does everything but spin.
Any suggestions please?

Replace those carbon brushes.

I do have slight knowledge of washing machines as I used to sell them in a domestic appliance shop back in the mid 80’s.
With this knowledge, I turned off the water supply, removed the back plate, took the belt off and unbolted the motor.
I then put the machine to a spin only cycle and and watched the motor. The sparks were coming from one of the carbon brushes where it was making contact with the copper coil area.
I swapped the brushes over and it appears to be working okay.
So is it fair to say it’s the carbon brushes?
If so does anyone know an average price for Hoover Select 1500 Carbon brushes please?
Thank you.

You look up the model number of your machine then order the brush units from the shop on this website. It’s as easy as that. Oh and do avoid testing a motor like that as it is extremely dangerous. Refit the motor THEN check it.
Stay safe.
