I had a Howdens kitchen fitted a month ago which included a Lamona LAM8301 dishwasher. The dishwasher leaked from day one at the bottom right corner. The fitter is my neighbour’s son. He came out and checked that it wasn’t anything to do with the plumbing causing the problem, which it wasn’t, and then logged to problem with Howdens who arranged for an engineer to come out. The engineer said it was a fitting problem and that the cabinet door had been screwed on too tight (as if that would make it leak!). He slackened the door and went. It then started leaking at the bottom left! My sister’s son came out again and slackened the cabinet door even more. Still leaking. He then arranged for a replacement dishwasher from Howdens that has just been fitted today. The new one is also leaking at the bottom left hand side. He is bewildered and is waiting for someone from Howdens to get back to him. In the meantime I thought I would post on here to see if anyone on here has an answer please?

Badly installed appliances and especially integrated dishwashers are a fact of life in this business and it needs an experienced repairer/installer to identify and rectify the problem.
It is highly improbable that you have had two dishwashers straight out of the box and both to be faulty.

I’d agree with Steve, sounds like a classic install error.

Normally either the cabinet is twisted in some manner or the door is out of whack so it doesn’t close correctly and, given that water will run down with gravity the bottom of the door is the most probable place it’ll leak from.

On some even them not being correctly levelled can give you that problem.

The chance of two faulty with exactly the same problem is just so remote it’s unreal. As if it was a production issue every one would be the same, not just the ones you happened to get.

Thanks both. Not sure it is the installation as the one sent back to Howdens is also leaking when they try and use it too.

If it’s bent then it will do.

A classic case of bad installation and NOT a faulty appliance. It simply is NOT levelled properly. It is essential to insure the floor is level. 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it isn’t so the levelling feet in all four corners of the appliance must be adjusted to compensate. Likewise the decor door has to be carefully secured to the inner door avoiding any likelyhood of distortion (twisting).

    Wake up Howdens!

The new one seems to be dry as a bone without the decor door on. Could it be that the decor door is warped?

    Re: Brand new Lamona LAM8301

    Doubt it.

More than likely just twisting the cabinet somehow.

    Re: Brand new Lamona LAM8301

Check the weight of the decor door ,look in the handbook for details.
Also is the door being fitted EXACTLY as per the fitting instructions and not just being screwed on

    Re: Brand new Lamona LAM8301

IIRC in order to offset the additional weight of the decor door panel, and ensure it fits tightly against the door seal, the springs can be adjusted to increase or decrease the tension.

Martin is referring to step 12 of the attached file and I am talking about step 5

    Re: Brand new Lamona LAM8301

Thanks so much for all this information – really helpful.

The new dishwasher had now been through five different cycles with the deco door OFF – bone dry every time.

Have checked that the dishwasher is level using a spirit level, and it is. Have also checked that the Howdens deco door has been previously fitted as per the instructions Martin sent, and it has. However, we have just noticed the when the door is open that the right hand side opens further out than the left. Upon further checking with a steel rule it look as if the top left of the dishwasher is set further back than the right in its housing. Could this be the problem? That without the deco door on the seal is closed tight, but when on the deco door tries to pull the door flush, opening the top right hand side and causing the leak?

Interesting that Lamona is Beko rebadged for Howdens!

    Re: Brand new Lamona LAM8301

what you describe sounds like the cabinet is twisting ,are the feet level at the back ?and is it fixed to the work top as it shouldn’t twist when you open the door

    Re: Brand new Lamona LAM8301

Checked the washer, and it is set in straight. It is the door that is wonky, i.e., not opening straight and when you out a spirit level against it, is not vertical when closed?
