    Indesit WIL103.

This is a bit of a noob question, but is there a way I can tell if the heating element in my washing machine is actually working? I sort of feel like there should be some evidence when I wash at (eg) 60 deg, like the clothes should be warm after the wash, or the door should be warm during the wash – but neither of those things are true. I also realise that the final rinse is probably cold and that the machine would probably having a way of telling me that one of the major components wasn’t working so maybe I should trust the technology more!

I’m competent enough to replace the element if needs be, but don’t want to do it unnecessarily.

Are there any basic foolproof tricks I can use to test? (eg, maybe stop the wash mid-way through and check if the clothes are warm then? Or check the initial water flow coming into the detergent dispenser?)

    Many thanks in advance!

On a 60 degree wash the glass should get noticeably warm after 20 mins or so into the main wash cycle. And yes the rinses are cold.

If you have a conventional mains electricity meter the circular disc should spin fast whenever the heater comes on to show a high current use age. From what you say though it does sound as though the heater needs replacing.
