ParticipantI don’t pretend to know huge amounts about politics but I do wonder how it will affect prices of new appliances, any thoughts?

In one respect pretty simple really.
Pound drops in value, imports are more expensive and prices rise.
If the pound stays down for any length of time prices will be hiked of almost all products and likely spare parts as well.
That may well spiral and lead to inflation rises as well on the top of that.
Most companies will soak it up or a while so long as its not too bad a bump but, ultimately it will be passed on if it lasts.
So far its a blip, until it stabilises to a new norm it’s hard to guess what will happen but I would anticipate costs in general to rise under current circumstances but, they keep changing so that may alter.

A look at the plummeting value of the Turkish Lira against sterling over the last few years partly explains why Beko has become a major brand in this country, despite the fires.
Price is the deciding factor for most buyers, no doubt about it.A £20 to £30 increase on the average cost of a washing machine would certainly help our industry a bit at least. I’m finding the public’s willingness to chuck 2 or 3 year old machines is the worst it’s ever been, loads of people seem to call for a price and maybe book a visit only to change their mind an hour later.
Absolutely infuriating waste of time but what can you do ? 😕Eddie.

Most of them deal in Euros.
What they do after to transfer to native currency, if they even do so, who knows.
And thing is, if the machines do go up so will everything else most likely, except earnings I expect.

Why funbobby ? They will only go up because of the exchange rate, there’ll be no extra money in them for us, they’ll simply be more expensive.

Yeah and everything else will go up as well, including all our costs so there’s no net benefit in it at all.

Not very likely if all costs rise unilaterally, which is the most probable outcome.
It’ll be as is, just more expensive for everyone.

Add to that Hotpoint and Indesit appliances up by 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. BSH group by between 2.5 and 6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} depending on model.
Both groups pricing will change as from September 1st.

Good for repairers as more people will have appliaces repaired if new is more expensive.

Again, not if you’re forced to put your prices up and the cost of spares also rises.
The gap may widen a bit sure, but that’s the best I think we’ll see.

On most of the high end cost appliances that people now have repaired then the gap between repair and new will increase.
So it will make more sense to repair even if repair cost increase.
More people now replace the cheaper appliances and buy new so the gap is not so big on the cheaper appliance’s but not many people have the cheaper ones repaired.
So hopefully work should increase for repairers.
Still as from December I will not have to worry as I will be retiring.
I am already slowing down and no longer carry out any contract work. This is where the problem may arise as Manufactures, Insurance Company’s and work providers will be looking to save money at the contractors expense.
