I have a large Ariston fridge freezer that has been kept in the garage unused for a couple of years. It is immaculate with the exception that it does not cool or freeze! 🙂

Upon switching on, the fridge freezer appears to hum in the traditional way but 24 hours later neither the fridge nor freezer is cold. Not sure whether I should scrap (seems a shame), is it something I could have a bash at or is repair likely to be economic?

    Thanks for your help!

It’s sounds like it has lost the refrigerant due to a leak probably caused by rust in the pipe work as it has been in the garage and not used.

Not a DIY job or cheap repair.

Thanks Rob. I will take a look tonight to see if any rust is present.

    Ariston Fidge Freezer 2

I have a large Ariston fridge freezer that has been kept in a modern, dry garage unused for a couple of years. It is immaculate with the exception that it no longer cools or freezes! 🙂

Upon switching on, the fridge freezer appears to hum in the traditional way but 24 hours later neither the fridge nor freezer is cold.
Rust has been suggested but the back of the unit is sealed so not easy to check. Although rust may possible, I am a little dubious. Could it be anything else?

Could you keep it to one thread please as it saves confusion.

    Thanks.

It could also be the compressor seized or the internal seals have rotted due to it not being used for so long but, in any event as Bob rightly says, it’s not a DIY repair and it won’t be cheap so, probably not economical.
