ModeratorI ordered an element for a Rangemaster cooker from the ‘Store’ here at UKWG’s.
That was well before lunchtime on Wednesday. I usually opt for the first dispatch option which I think is Royal Mail. 9 out of 10 times when I do this I receive the part the following day.
This time as I needed the part urgently I selected the second dispatch option, this is highlighted as the Stores recommended option.Yesterday I received an email from Hermes advising me that they now have my item and it will be delivered in the next 2 or 3 days or maybe a little longer.
If I had stuck to the Royal Mail option it is 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain the job would have been completed by now. 🙁
Mini rant over. 🙂

Problem is Jim that in much of the country RM is about as reliable as a Chinese dishwasher. 😉

TBH I can only think of one part from you that went astray for a couple of days via Royal Mail, next day delivery has been the norm for a good while now.

Yeah, depends where you are Jim, it’s a patchy service in places, woeful in others.

Hermes always take an age around these parts.
You should have stuck with Qualtex or Connect. Next day delivery with a time slot…July 1, 2016 at 5:28 pm #438979kwatt

Yup they are indeed, along with twice the price or more.
Those options are still there, just expensive if it’s not absolutely desperate.

In this trade one has to define what exactly can be regarded as “urgent?”
What pressure can a customer inflict that makes the time needed so so desperate that only next day delivery on a ‘one off’ part be so desperately sought?
Given the extreme logistics required throughout the UK for a third party to fetch, carry and deliver from point A to point B usually via their own internal distribution centres. The task so mind blowing it defies any any logical reasoning as to how they do it AND profit from it?
Or how RM can even exist these days and compete at the same level given all the adverse anomalies it faces in the teeth of competition?
The fact pifflingly small bits needed to rectify a minor domestic crisis are transformed into a major commercial incident that potentially threatens the reputation of a long established sole trader thanks to the frailties of the distribution system the implications are hard to imagine.
It’s tough out there. :eeek:
