    Hi

    My washing machine would start a cycle, take in water, drum would turn 1/4 of a revolution and then stop. The leds would then flicker and dim as if there isn’t enough power to the machine.

    Pump is fine and filter clear.
    I removed motor and checked brushes. They look fine with plenty left in them. Someone then wired motor (blue to brushes, brown to one of the coils, jumper between brush and other coil) but the motor seems dead.

    Is it worth replacing? Can motor failure indicate another fault somewhere else, e.g. PCB?

    The motor, on a quick look, is listed at £184.

    Of course it can be had for a lot less but you’re still looking at about the £100 mark.

    So I guess it depends on whether you want to take a £100 punt on it along with the age and condition of the machine.

    Thanks for replying.

    I’ve had a look on eBay and think I can get a recon for around £30.

    But I don’t want to waste that if motors dont usually blow on their own like that.

    Could the pcb be shot now as well?

    In theory do motors blow on their own?

    Yep, they do.

    Problem is if the pop they can take the the board out as well.

    That’s what I’m afraid of.

    I suppose there is no way of checking unless I install new motor and it still doesn’t work?

    Normally that’s the only way to be sure unless there’s a test mode on it but, even then it’s sometimes not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.

    Thanks. I think I shouldn’t risk it, it is 9 years old and the LCD doesn’t work, there’s rust above the drawer and have to keep disconnecting blue wires every few weeks otherwise lights bleep all over the place.

    At that age, no, not worth the risk.

    Even if there is a test cycle for it, it’d show you that in the LCD screen so that’d be of no use.
