ParticipantI have a Kenmore Model # 106.59597993 Year 2001 side x side Refrigerator and I need
a Freezer thermostat. I have a installed a ranco vt9 and the cut in temp is to high,
It tuns off at about -25c and on about -2c. The factory no longer makes the thermostat
Part # 2203252 or 3ART32G1. Any help on a replacement Thermo would be appreciated
It also has a defrost timer and a refrigerator thermostat. Thanks JohnJuly 5, 2016 at 5:13 pm #439128kwatt

I see what you mean, totally obsolete now and it’s a really odd stat.
I can’t even get the cut in/out temps for it so I’ve no idea what you could swap it to, if it’s even possible as some those were pretty unique.

Kwatt Thanks for the reply, It looks like the freezer side needs to stay around -5c to-15c
The wiring sheet says the freezer should be o to -5f for normal operating conditions

The freezer should maintain a mean temp of -18?C normally as that’s the optimal storage temperature. It’ll jump higher and lower as it cuts in and out but, that’s what it should be.
A fridge, usually, will run +2?C to +5?C, there’s some variance in that but not too much.
Your problem with cut in and out values is that they are often set by the temp at the evaporator or inlet and not the value you need in the cavity, it’s confusing I know.
So if you look at a bog standard VT9, like this one:

The cut in and outs are not the values in the cavity, i.e. not what the temp in there will be but it’s the temps it cuts in and out at where the phial is.

A VT9 thermostat is a fridge stat.
If it has two stats 1 for the fridge and 1 for the freezer then I would try a Whirlpool universal freezer stat. This would be a Whirlpool W6 thermostat kit.
