ParticipantHi,
My first time here. I’m really hoping someone can point me in the right direction to fix this problem myself.
I did a quick freezer defrost on my 5 year old Zanussi ZRB227W0 Fridge Freezer by turning it off & using a dryer & hot water in a bowl (as usual). Afterwards the light and the compressor came on, so I assumed all was well and went on holiday. A week later neither fridge nor freezer was cold. I unplugged it and left it for a day, throwing out the freezer contents and cleaning it.
When I turn it on, just a thermostat control in the fridge, the light comes on, the compressor hums & gurgling noises can be heard, however neither fridge nor freezer cools at all. The compressor gets hot and I don’t think the fan is operating. It is not auto defrost.
I have replaced the thermostat as I wasn’t sure the compressor was on. It does seem to hum now (and get hot).
Any help would be really appreciated.

It sounds like you have lost the gas or the compressor seals have blown not a cheap or DIY repair.

HI
inspect and secure all wiring connections as you might have disturbed them during defrosting. It happened to me but it was a different model.Good LuckJuly 8, 2016 at 8:09 am #439185GBNeil

That would be curtains for the FF – too expensive a fix to justify & too difficult for a novice I guess?
The sooner I make the decision, the sooner I can put this sorry story behind me, so how can I check lost gas or compressor seals please?
Many thanks for the prompt reply SAMURI 🙂

Really not sure if it’s my imagination, but it seems the walls of the unit are all colder, just on the outside though?!

.The appliance that you describe doesn’t have a fan as far as i can see ❗
So i’d imagine the compressor has failed, most likely not worth repairing.July 9, 2016 at 3:07 pm #439189GBNeil

I’ve just discovered the fridge has an automatic defrost – could this be the problem? What would this look like & could I test it?
