    I have an Electrolux EW1006F and the hearing element has failed.

    I have bought a replacement element, but I am having trouble getting into the machine. The cabinet doesn’t have the usual access panel on the rear and instead has joins down either side of the machine with a kind of wrap around rear panel.

    The mounting bracket which supports the drum sits right on top of the join on either side of the machine and I am worried that just unbolt in the rear panel from the support to release it will put too much weight from the drum on the front panel and damage it.

    There also appears to be a plastic baseplate attached to the inside of both the rear and front panels which makes it impossible to reach into from underneath.

    I have looked on the Internet but can’t find any guidance on this model or a similar design.

    Can anyone give me some pointers on how to get into it without damaging it?

    Begs the question, how do you know the heater is the cause of the fault if you haven’t yet accessed it to check it? Could just be broken wiring or a fault elsewhere.;)

    The whole back panel lifts off quite easily, the top support bracket stays in place. just remove the top screws that are holding the top edge of the cabinet rear, prise out the white plastic bungs on either side at the bottom to reveal two more screws, remove any screws holding the rear, bottom edge of the cabinet and then gently prise the bracket holding the fill valves loose. Remove the fill hoses first to make this easier to lift up as you pull the cabinet rear backwards.

    You’re quite right, I don’t know for certain it’s the element – I think it’s the element and I managed to get hold of one cheaply. If it turns out it’s not the element once I get inside it, I’ll list the element on eBay.

    Luckily my guess that the element had failed was correct and with a new element the machine’s working fine again.
