Hi, and thanks in advance for reading.

I have a Hotpoint RFA52 Iced Diamond fridge freezer (or RFAA 52 P, R600a 58 gr according to the label on the back), about two or three years old. Compressor is Emraco EMX66CLC.

After accidentally leaving the fridge door open yesterday, I found that the fridge didn’t come back down to a suitable temperature, only about 15C. It was buzzing gently (normal?) but not pumping. Compressor pot was hot.

Today, I have defrosted and left it to cool down for a couple of hours, then switched back on. Compressor started OK and fridge came down to 12C or so, then it just buzzing again and fridge back up to 15C. Freezer has been anywhere between -7C and +8C. Whilst the fridge was coming down to 12C, the compressor got pretty hot again (almost too hot to touch for more than a few seconds) and the condenser was hot bottom right but not top left.

So not a completely failed system, but not great!

Does this suggest a compressor fault that I’ll need an engineer for, or is there something else I can try first.

The buzzing sound may be normal (I can’t remember) so perhaps the thermostat might be faulty and telling the fridge it is cold enough, when it is not?

    Any other possibilities?

    Many thanks, Dan

    Re: Hotpoint RFA52 fault

Update: fridge still gets down to 12C then switches off, freezer gets as low as -20C (if my little fridge thermometer can be trusted). Then switches off for a long period and both end up somewhere near ambient before cooling kicks in again.

    Any advice please?
