    Hi,

I understand 6E to be a loose ball sensor. Can any one kindly tell
me what a ball sensor is and where it is situated?

    Many thanks.

    Thanks for responding Jim,

I have not been to the machine yet – never attended one in 35yrs. I
got the customer to conform it was definitely 6E. I got ‘Ball Sensor’
from a table online – see image.

She says machine stops full of water in middle of program. Is there a float switch in these machines?

    Thanks again.

The BALL SENSOR is so named
because it contains a small ball
covering an even smaller hole. The ball
rests so it blocks the light from the LED
above from shining through the hole to
the phototransistor below. If the tub
moves enough to strike the, the ball is
    moved temporarily from its resting
place, allowing the light to trigger the
    phototransistor. This, in turn, causes
the drum rotation to stop and then
    attempt to rebalance the load.
The sensor assembly is bolted to the
back of the washer near the bottom.
The tub (surrounding the drum) is
suspended on springs and dampers to
allow some motion while the drum
rotates. However, if the load is out of
balance and the tub moves too far out
of place, a tab on the tub will strike the
    ball sensor.

Sits at the rear under the pressure vessel .You can try cleaning the ” eye ” but think it’ll prob be a case of replacing it. ( might be worth checking the machine to see if its a drainage/ tub issue causing excess vib and the sensor’s actually just doing its job ! )
