Hi my washing machine on its 3rd washing load (one after the other) decided to trip the house board c.b. for that circuit not the rcd, i reinstated it and tripped again. opened door and found clothes not fully rinsed, removed and disassembled rear of machine found the large circuit board at the bottom by the motor had a section of pcb track burnt/missing at rear where its mounted. soldered track together and continuity ok.

motor brushes checked ok and comm, just to test motor put a seperate 240v feed to motor and in one direction turns belt and barrel ok but other direction motor is flashing smell of burning and c.b trips.

The front panel that has the dials etc nothing is lighting up. but when you toggle the mains plug switch on/off several times a clicking intermitently can be heared at the program selector pcb area and the small fan at the top starts running with the heater getting hot, thats all that works. not tripping c.b now. did disconnect all push on plugs/connectors and reconnected in attempt to try find whats causing c.b to trip, to no avail. nothing else on any pcb board componenets or tracks looks damaged.

As stated the fan is the only thing that runs but the last time i tried it i dont think the heater steel casing was getting hot now? not sure whats issue, has laundry been overfilled and when spinning has water leaked onto pcb and caused the said damage? no wires look damaged, or signs of major leaks, or is it motor caused damage.

I shorted the mains supressor wires brown to brown and blue to blue and still only fan runs. After reading your article on tripping fuse c.b, realised not good idea just to get new pcb board and fit when whatever has caused the failure may still be defective and hence burn the new board.

Any ideas of any potential steps to take to possibly fix or is it one for the bin and no chance of saving just get new machine?.

my thoughts are is it motor needs renewing and the pcb that had burnt track, iv checked the large pcb has power going in on the connectors but nothing to the motor connector on the motor on any wire. If it is motor any fixes possible can it be taken apart easily? or is it not worth replacing motor and pcb only to find what if its something else?….read your article but havent got an insulation test meter, any tricks to help please would be apprecaited.

    Cheers.

Sound like the board is fried and, to be honest, with the age and cost of a replacement board let alone anything else, I wouldn’t consider a repair viable.
