Whatever cycle I start with it trips the RCD switch. Originally started tripping within a few minutes of starting a wash cycle. At one point when trying a process of elimination to identify the problem, it was able to do a full spin cycle, and at one point I was able to get 3 or 4 minutes in to a drain cycle, but now it just trips within seconds of starting (on any cycle/program). I have checked the power supply and power supply cable fuse, both being ok, and have taken the top off to check if there is any obvious sign of wiring problems, but nothing jumps out as a potential/probable cause.

I have also tried running a cold cycle to see if it would run, but the same problem.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, or have any ideas on what can be tried to resolve the problem

    Thanks

If it’s a zanussi try disconnecting the dryer heater causes lots of problems

Thanks Kaibart, but the washer/dryer is a John Lewis branded machine. I ‘m not sure that it is a heater related problem though as it trips for drain, spin, etc programs which don’t need the dryer heater to function – but to try and eliminate the dryer heater as the cause, would disconnecting it and trying to run the machine with it disconnected cause any possible additional problems with either the machine or the machine’s PCB?…if not, do you know how I would be able to disconnect it.

    Thanks

Your John Lewis is a rebadged Zanussi. If you disconnect the dryer heater connections (carefully noting their position first of course) the fault will clear without damaging the PCB.

Dryer elements are prone to earth leakage and cause all sorts of random errors. Temporarily disconnecting will confirm any suspicion and a new element the ultimate cure.

Also the same applies to the water heater, though that is less likely, that too could have an earth leak.
