ParticipantHi there. Apologies if this is a silly question but here goes. Just got a Bush BES50W cooker which came without a cable fitted to the unit. According to the instructions supplied the bare end of each cable needs to be placed directly under the screw then the screw needs tightened.
Spent a while trying to see where the Blue ( Neutral ) wire would actually fit under the screw but just can’t seem to manage it. I unscrew it but it remains almost countersunk in the plastic surround. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You should strip off sufficient sheathing to expose enough copper wire to entirely encircle the screw thread before securing it as tight as possible into the terminal block.

Thanks Martin. My problem is that the screw when loosened leaves no actual space for the copper wire to wrap around it. It does not extrude from the plastic that surrounds it and there is no gap or slot underneath it to insert the wire as far as I can see.
Can’t see how to put images up correctly but here is a picture from my phone earlier hosted on flickr.

Thanks Lawrence, but where exactly does it get pushed under? There doesn’t seem to be any space under the screws either.

Just reading through the user manual and I can see where you are coming from here. The instructions are rubbish in the extreme. But looking at your photo it does look as though each wire needs to be slotted just below each of the 3 screws. You should loosen the screw first which releases the compression plate, slot the wire in then tighten the screw……

Cheers Martin, that seemed to do the trick. Thank you so much 🙂

Just a word of warning if you have fitted the cooker yourself, Bush are among a few companies now wanting to know that you have had your cooker fitted by an appropriate professional before sending people out for warranty work, no doubt fed up with the amount of faults caused by incorrect installations.
