ParticipantWe have a Hotpoint TCL780 Condenser Dryer, it recently stopped getting drying clothes and just ran cool.
I did various investigation work (basically I googled it!), everything appeared to point to a problem with the thermostats.
I bought a couple of cheap non-genuine replacement thermostats off eBay, fitted these but no change, the dryer still didn’t get hot. I did a bit more digging and it suggested I replaced all 3 thermostats rather than the 2 I had already replaced. In the end I decided to buy the entire heater unit complete with thermostats (genuine part). Before this arrived I was playing around with the dryer and I found it did get warm when using one of the Set and Forget programmes, i.e. 1 Ready To Wear 2 Cottons Cupboard Dry, it only doesn’t work when you try and set using one of the numbers, i.e. 60.
The replacement heater unit arrived and I fitted it yesterday, anyway there is no change it still only works on the Set and Forget programmes.
I’ve already cleaned out the dryer, removed any fluff, washed through the filter etc, we’ve also had the ‘safety’ repair several months ago so it should all be good to go.
Any suggestions on what to try next? Thanks in advance.

First and most important question, that dryer is almost certainly one of the fire hazard, recall models. Have you had it modified or registered it for the safety modification?

Hi, yes, we’ve had the safety modification done.

Sorry, missed that about the recall in your first post.
Virtually all faults should generate an error message???

I’m not seeing anything, the drying cycle completes as if the clothes should be dried but there is no heat.
If we set to Ready To Wear then there is heat, it’s when we try and set for a specific load where it just runs cool.

The plastic controls knobs often break on these but that would tend to leave the machine stuck on just one setting.
It could be the top control module although I have not encountered this fault TBH.
That pcb is actually cheaper than the element assembly as well.
Part number C00276945.
Components such as thermostats and elements should always be tested first with suitable equipment before just changing them on the off chance. 😉

I did read about testing it first but I got the heater unit on offer (£23) so took the risk, at least it’s shiny and new now 🙂
I’ll have a look for that part number thank you.

If you mail Dave on spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk he’ll find it for you as cheap as it can be gotten most likely.
