ParticipantHi everyone
I have a Hoover VHV680C vented sensor dryer. I bought it in March 2013 from Currys. Chose it because it was the only sensor vented dryer they had in stock and I wanted one there & then.
It’s been a fantastic dryer, only gripes are that the sensor must get very confused from time to time as the occasional load does not dry properly, though this could possibly be linked to the other issue of it sometimes needing two presses on the start button to get it going and we’ve walked off without realising it never started.
Anyway it’s working well now – too well – as it won’t shut-down when the door is open. I had a lucky escape as the door was open ready to load when the dryer decided to give the drum another quick turn as it does when the cycle has finished (thank God my arm wasn’t inside at the time!).
Is this a common fault and what should I do / am I doing anything wrong? TIA.

Well further to my last message, I managed to find the time to take the lid off the dryer. First thing I noticed is that the entire insides are THICK with grey fluff and no way can that be my fault as I am forever cleaning the filter and the chute to the vent hose as the slightest build up of fluff means the dryer will not dry to completion.
Second thing, the micro switch on the interlock is burnt to a crisp, so much so that one of the cables to it just fell away from the spade terminal it was attached to. But most worrying of all is the pile of scorched fluff all around the switch – is this how tumble dryer fires can start? :eeek:
I have ordered the new part from this very website, for which many thanks, but I am clueless as to how I am going to reconnect the charred cable which now has no spade connector. Can anyone help? Thanks again for reading.

You will need to cut back the leads beyond the burn then fit crimped amp (spade) terminals on the end. Crimping pliers and spade terminals available from places like Screwfix, B&Q etc. If the leads need to be lengthened then 13amp flex can be easily bought by the metre (mains cable type flex – remove outer sheath). Join the leads using blue butt connectors (crimped using same tool).
