Hi. We have a Neff U1661 double oven. Every time after the bottom (fan-assisted) oven has been cleaned the RCD trips when you next turn the control knob to on (clockwise) and I have to go through a reset procedure which sometimes fixes it straightaway. Other times it takes several attempts and/or waiting an hour or so. As it has also happened after a dish of hot, steaming vegetables has been in there I’m guessing that moisture is getting somewhere to cause a short.
Will replacing the element(s) solve this – and if so which one(s) – or is it something much simpler like replacing a seal of some kind either on the oven casing or the wiring.
    Cheers

I think you can rule out the elements as if they were an issue they would trip out every time you use the oven. More likely the issue is condensation getting into the two light fittings.

Steam cleaners (like Kärcher) are a major pain at causing faults with oven and hobs. The water v’s electrics scenario every time. We in the trade love folks using them because inevitably they cause problems and we then have to rectify. 😉

Hi Martin and thanks for your response. I did test the lights (by turning the control know one place anti-clockwise) but this didn’t trip the RCD. Turning the knob back clockwise and onto the first “on” setting did cause it to trip.
Is it possible to protect the element wiring / connections and/or seal any gaps in the oven internal casing to prevent condensation reaching the connections. If so, what materials should I use?
    Regards

It is not possible or necessary to use any material substance to seal an oven. Simply avoid using steam cleaners.

Now if steaming vegetables causes an issue wthe the oven tripping the MCB then I seriously advise the oven needs checking with an insulation tester, the source of the earth leak located and replaced.

At this point you may best seek the help of a local repairer.

    Thanks Martin, I’ll try that.
