ParticipantHi There
I have an ISE W256W
For some weeks now it has been tripping the RCD intermittently.
I have had the back off several times but as my wife pointed out it always cured itself after 3 days no matter what I did, or indeed if I did anything.
Today through a combination of skill and luck I have managed to track it down to the thermistor. So I nagged my wife about overloading and started to put things back together.
On removing the thermistor it was wet, I dried it off, replaced it in its housing and powered up all was good. So I unplugged and clipped in the switchboard at the front (Which I had removed) on plugging back in the rcd immediately tripped again. If the thermistor is left away from the drum all is good as soon as it makes contact it trips.
Any and all advice gratefully received

Thermistor is a low voltage component. That can’t short to earth or enough to take out an RCD as there’s only 12V DC running through it IIRC.
Water getting down there and onto the motor though…

Hiya
Thank You for the replies
I ordered a new thermistor yesterday after confirming the machine would power on with the thermistor out of position but trip when in situ or in contact with the drum.
No signs of water on the motor or indeed anywhere apart from on the thermistor.
Things were working again this morning (thermistor dried out I presumed) so I tried a cycle.
It seems the machine is tripping during the spin cycle and having just tested it the thermistor is wet again, with a small load.
We wash at low temperatures normally so I am thinking my next step is, check for blockages at drain level and perform a maintenance wash.
This bring me to two thoughts
1. The spin is very loud and has been for some time, before things went pair shaped for ise it was repaired by having the springs which attach the drum to the case at the top replaced as they had failed completely (I found one last week in the bottom of the machine). But the spin remained loud. There is damage to the back panel where the motor was or is hitting the casing. Could the spin be out of balance and thus sending water where it shouldn’t go?
2. Could it be that water isn’t getting drained as quickly as it needs to and is backing up therefore being forced out onto the thermistor?
Thanks again

ah that makes more sense
check just below the pulley sounds like you bearing system is failing and the water seal is letting water through that is leaking on the thermistor

Thanks Again
Checked the belt and motor and drum bearings. Now I am not a mechanic but in car terms I would have said they were all absolutely fine. No movement and no untoward sound.
Trying a maintenance wash now.
*Update from maintenance wash*
1. Spin is a lot quieter when empty, pulley wheel at back is unbalanced though.
2. Water either isn’t heating at all or not very much
3. Thermistor wasn’t floodedNovember 20, 2016 at 2:54 pm #442956snikom

Just done a proper wash, sheets on normal wash 1900 spin
There is evidence of leakage on the outlet and a slight damp patch underneath. Looks like its time to take the front off too as I can’t observe where the leak is coming from with the motor in-situ and can’t spot it with just water in the drum and the motor out, I am guessing leakage whilst spinning but I am quickly getting out of my depth 🙂

Some info that might help if you read through them…

Look for telltale run marks.

Thank You K
Water is leaking from breather hose, run marks down that side of drum.
Am I correct in thinking the best/only cure for this is educating the user? If so I may be doomed 🙂

All seemed fine, no sign of leaks from the breather hose, put machine back together blew an ic (possbily power ac/dc converter chip) on the control board, thermistor was wet again but don’t know if this was the cause or I had trapped a cable or similar. Gutted 🙁

Hi,.
I have and ISE 1604 w and after changing the water pump and cleaning the control panel, while pushing the control panel back in place the AC DC regulator chip pressed on a screw, cracked and blew.
It’s a 50p part and easy to solder. In my case it was a 7 pin chip LNK363PN.
Maybe the same, maybe not…

Thank You Charlie
It is a 7 pin chip but I can’t idea it as the whole top has blown off.
I am tempted to just solder on another regulator on the nothing to lose basis and a part number is really helpful, it may well be worth the punt if I can’t find out the “correct” chipNovember 22, 2016 at 2:35 pm #442963Martin114

The W256W chip is the same as charlie’s 1604W – LNK363PN
