I have seen explanations of one or two things that mystified me on this site so I will try you with this one. Why do the digital timers on ovens default to auto when the power is turned off and restored? Is it in case the appliance is set up to do a timed operation, where defaulting to manual would leave the oven on continuously until the user came back to it? If so, I would have thought that they could incorporate something to detect if the oven switch or thermostat is turned on and default to manual in cases where the oven is turned off. ❓

    Re: Oven Timers

I can quite undersand why when they are fitted to gas cookers as any power failure and susequent reconnection could, if conditions allowed cause an explosion should the ignition fail or become intermittent (that can happen anyway, even on timed cooking).

I guess, given that the timers are only made by a few manufacturers it’s easier to make them all to default to auto when powered down and back on again.

Ah, never thought about gas as I never touch the stuff. I leave that sort of thing to those little dogs with the stumpy legs and their collections of toy cars.
