    Hi everyone,

We have a 7 year old Miele WT2670 which has recently started playing up. The tumble drying setting no longer finishes; it gets to 10 minutes remaining and stays on it permanently. Also, where it would normally be warm to the touch, it’s stone cold. When we turn it off to get the clothes out, they’re still damp.

I presume that it stops on 10 minutes because it detects that there’s still too much moisture, and that’s where the cycle would normally pump out more heat to compensate, but the heat never comes.

I phoned Miele to see whether they had any idea, but unsurprisingly they recommended their £125ph repair service. That’s not really an option I’m willing to entertain, because this isn’t the first issue we’ve had with this machine and I’m not sure I want to pump more money into it – I’d rather put it towards a new one, or fix it myself.

My first thought was that the heating element had gone, but I’m 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain that it would throw a fault, because Miele machines are very good at giving this kind of feedback. I’ve read elsewhere that the thermostat could be the issue. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can detect the problem? I’m moderately handy, but could do with some guidance!

    Thanks in advance.

Check both heater and stat first then report back.

Martin, thanks for the reply. But I don’t know how to do that! I’m not really sure what I should be looking for, or how to check the components when I find them.

Oh dear, asking for help will inevitably mean you will need a good degree of electrical knowledge and the relevant tools including a test meter. The test meter to check the electrical potential of the element and thermostat the most necessary. So, with the power totally isolated you will need tools to access the heater/stat terminals and so on.

Yes Miele do charge highly for their services but often local independent repair companies are cheaper. An option you may consider given the circumstances.
