Posted this for info only in case it helps anyone else in the future…

Lamona HJA 8514 – not spinning but rotates for ages as if to balance the load.

    Ran fine for 2.5 years.

Symptoms that appeared after 2.5 years with no change of loading technique:-
During wash cycles the machine would spend 10 to 15 mins trying to balance a load by slow rotations, but was often never able to achieve a proper spin even when set to slow spin speeds.
It felt this must be due to unbalanced loads, but the machine was never this sensitive for the first 2 and half years so something had changed/failed.

Searched, read and concluded it was worth changing the brushes and checking for blockages.

When I pulled the machine out there was a pile of carbon dust on the floor under the motor – a change of brushes looked promising!

The old brushes still had some meat on them, so I was less confident of success but replaced them anyway.

There was no outlet filter, but the black rubber hose to the impeller/pump and the outlet hose were all clear of any debris.

With new brushes the machine seems to be back to its former spinning self.

Very good idea is to change the belt as they stretch about 2 inches. Abstractly, this can actually be the major cause of the problem rather than a pcboard chip problem or anything else and I`ve proved it to be.
