ParticipantHi all
Well I have one of the above integrated full height freezers which has an O/C defrost heater. I managed to obtain a replacement heater – albeit tied to the evaporator so I’ll have to remove it before I can fit it. However it’s been many months since the old defrost heater was removed, and the two thermal cutouts were unclipped at the time. Now I can’t remember what their original position was!
I’ve uploaded a photo of them as they are now looking down on top of the evaporator at the rear. Does this look correct? Also are they two different types of cutout and should they have a specific position on the pipes?
Thanks!

Ahh that’s great – Thanks!!!
Would you happen to know if these can be checked for correct operation (continuity / resistance?) or do they have to be taken to a certain temperature?
Thanks again!

Actually I just noticed something else as well… The two cutouts are clamped to the same tube – not sure if it’s the input or the output of the evaporator but it’s the top tube. Is this correct or should one be clamped to the input & one to the output?
Thanks again 🙂

OK I managed to fit the new defrost heater today and re-assembled everything. I tested the two thermal cutouts and they were both reading a short – is this correct? I wondered if one was a klixon which should be open circuit at room temperature and closes below 0°C?
Also again I just wondered if they are both OK clipped to the same tube?
Thanks again 🙂

they are meant to be on the same tube and one opens at 10degrees the other opens at 40degrees

So – I decided to replace the cutouts as well – they were on sale at one dealer for £16. I have cleaned & re-assembeld everything and it’s been powered up for a couple of days now without any drama. The evaporator has remained ice-free thus far…
I read somewhere that there was a test mode for this range of freezers. I can’t recall what it enabled you to test or how it was accessed. Any ideas anyone – and if it would be of any use?
Thanks!
