I recently repaired my machine which involved removing the heating element to clean out some limescale due to a scraping noise on spinning. I managed to solve this original problem, but now on using the machine for the third time since the repair I now have a spinning problem.

When I put it on it pulls the soap & water in and then starts turning to mix up. However, all it does is start the spin then immediately lets the drum spin down on its own. Its as if it does one spin and then gives up each time, it won’t spin continuously.
It does this repeatedly for a few minutes then stops with error code F02.

It does this on a normal cycle & on a spin cycle (which I used to test it)

I have taken the back panel off, the drive belt is in good condition. After taking off the drive belt the drum spins freely. I had hold of the motor spindle which has no play in it and turns smoothly. I can’t see any obvious visual defects, all wires are connected etc.

    Can you advise please?

Motor speed control is faulty. Could be poor motor wiring connections, faulty motor tachometer, faulty control module, possibly something was disturbed or got wet when you removed the heater.

    Thanks for your fast response.

I am pretty sure I didn’t get anything wet so my first thought were the tacho just from the way it was reacting, the start/stop.

Is the tachometer one of the little blocks on the side of the motor?
Also whereabouts in the machine is the control module?

    Thanks

That sounds like the motor brushes, one each side of motor. The tachometer is on the end of the motor, opposite the pulley end. You could try tightening all the wiring contacts in the motor wiring harness plug. They are very cheap and flimsy.

The main module in on the left down at the bottom.

    Fixed – hopefully….

I took the motor off and looked all round it, and I saw what looked odd, it was the inside of the tacho (I could see the electro-magnets…) ❗

The armature (? wheel magnet with yellow plastic thread attached) was on the floor….

I threaded this back in to finger tight, then used a screwdriver to gently “park” it while I turned the motor spindle a fraction to tighten it slightly more. I didn’t want to overtighten it.

    Washer now working!

I did a spin cycle and then a rinse cycle and they both worked fine all the way through, it’s now doing a proper wash and seems to be behaving itself.

The only thing that bothers me is that there was no plastic cover or anything over this, is that normal? I know it doesn’t really need protecting from anything under there unlike a car startermotor would, but should there be something to hold it in place rather than just screwed in? There was nothing on the floor anywhere.

But anyway, thanks for all your help, you’ve been great!

Several different motors fitted to these machines. Some tachos do have some sort of cover over them but not all.

Thanks for that, since I didn’t find anything lying around I’ll just hope that it’s a version without an end cap. I’ll lift the machine up in a couple of weeks and see if it’s staying in place.

Again, thanks very much for all your help.
