Hi . I am baffled by this one , the freezer is working fine , fan , defrost everything ok , but no cold air entering fridge , i then discovered it is coming through the vents in the fridge whenever the freezer door is open but not when its closed , i know there is a diffuser in behind the vent panel in the fridge but ive disconnected it why can this happen anyone

This would normally indicate the channel to the fridge behind the evaporator is blocked, so the hot air in the fridge can’t be displaced. Did you pull out the evaporator and check behind it?

I completely defrosted everything the evap, fan and the channel is fine if it was blocked how would air come into the fridge

You don’t just have one channel though, you have one at the top and one further down behind the evaporator. If the one behind the evaporator is blocked, when the door is closed the air can’t be displaced so it never circulates cold into the fridge or hot out of it. With the door open, you allow the air to be displaced and would then get cold air coming up assuming the damper is open

Was searching through my phone for an example of what I meant. This is what I’m talking about, the channel behind the evaporator and as you can see from the photo, it’s choked with ice.

Yes I know about that channel I used a cable tie to fish down ,I used hair dryer to defrost but I didn’t remove the evap, is it possible a partial blockage would cause it

From what you’ve said the channels would definately be my bet.

Best thing to do is get yourself a steamer rather than using a hairdrier. It’s much quicker, allows you to hit directly to a specific spot for clearing drain holes etc and allows you to also test the channels by blowing steam through them and checking it comes out the other side. I used to use a hairdrier and it took about 10 times longer to do the same job.
