My son rang me a few mins ago to tell me that his Bosch Classixx 6 1400 Express washing machine had stopped in the middle of a cycle.

Around the same time, the main consumer board tripped and I’m guessing this is connected. It may have been that an internal fault within the machine caused it to trip or with the power failure (which has never happened before), a fault was caused.

The situation now is that the machine has power but will not continue in its wash cycle.

I’m going tomorrow morning to take a look at it but am just wondering if there’s anything obvious or if these machines have a habit of doing this?

Will the machine fill and drain? If it will then you may be lucky and it could just be the motor brushes, the circuit breaker ‘may’ have saved the main pcb .

I’m told it won’t drain, fill or spin.

    Does the door lock?

TBH it sounds like the main motor has taken out the pcb. 😥

Yes, the door still locks and the lights come on in the instrument panel.

Check the motor brushes and commutator for signs of arcing and visually inspect main pcb for signs of damage.

Checked all round the motor and circuits but could not find any signs of shorting.

Got the heater element removed and inspected it but it looks just fine.

I tested it with a multi meter and there is a resistance of around just 26 Ohms. I’d expected an open circuit but this was not the case.

Not sure where to go from here. .

Did you remove the motor brushes?

No, I didn’t remove the motor. I just visually inspected it in situ. Should I remove and check it fully?

Also, my son seems to remember there was an F15 fault code.

I’ve removed the motor and brushes as per image.

The brushes are smaller than a £1 coin and not at all shiny, the same applies to the commutator. I would have thought that the continuous contact during the motor motion would have left it with a polished appearance.

Those brushes are badly worn and the commutator looks in a very bad way. I would suspect if you remove the main pcb you will find signs of damage.

If there is damage to the pcb then you would need a new motor and pcb which would make the machine BER.

Have the brushes been changed in the past as those look to be very poor quality carbons.

If the pcb is undamaged then you may just get away with a new motor, still expensive.

Where is the PCB please? I’ll take a look at it.

As far as I know this is the original motor and brushes, we bought it used. Replacement brushes are only £4 on EBay so it might be worth while trying them if I can find the PCB

As it was second hand I suspect it has already had some of those cheap and nasty copies of the carbon brushes fitted, they very often lead to severe motor damage.

Even putting genuine brushes in that motor would be unlikely to effect a repair, putting cheapo ones in could be a complete waste of time.

The pcb is the whole of the main control panel along the front of the machine vat the top.

You are totally correct, I removed the PCB and immediately could see signs of heat damage around a couple of the resistors. Thanks for your help, looks like the drum will become a planter for herbs now.
